Senior Analyst Basel II-Halifax, UK-Salary: Competitive

The Bank has just returned to operating profit and is keen to build the risk function to support the development of a world class banking business.

The Role:
-To develop first class Basel II Expected Loss models that meet the requirements of all relevant legislation, and are continually improved.
-To develop and maintain leading-edge Model Performance Monitoring and Annual Review processes whilst driving through Business-As-Usual activities supporting wider Retail business units.
-To support Retail Basel II Model development work through seeking out and developing new and innovative modelling techniques and solutions.
-To support Analysts in the team, and work with Decision Science Senior Managers to support and develop wider initiatives across the team.
-Develop and raise awareness of best practices within all aspect of Basel II Modelling and Analytics

Lead analysts (where required), and provide input into the scoping, design, development, validation and implementation of Basel II Expected Loss models.
-To steer, successfully, all models and reviews of Basel EL Models through the internal and external governance processes, ensuring compliance with Group standards and FSA regulation.
-Assist in the preparation of business cases and resource plans for individual EL model developments. Perform individual key tasks within individual model development projects (with minimal management involvement), demonstrating good team working skills to help ensure that high quality models are delivered on time that meet business requirements and can be implemented.
-Where required, manage junior analysts, including the setting of clear objectives, and providing clear and objective feedback, including both areas where the analysts worked well, and where there is room for improvement. Deliver feedback in a positive and motivating way.
-Liaise with your manager to identify ways to improve the status quo, in terms of models that are implemented, and the way we work to deliver these models

Ideal Candidate:
A good degree in a numerate subject, preferably at a postgraduate level, and preferably in a relevant subject (maths, statistics, operational research, economics).
-At least 3 years experience in the development of credit risk models in Retail Banking.
-Ideally, 1-2 years experience in the development of Retail Basel II EL models.
-Good knowledge of modern risk management techniques within Retail Banking, and in the use of risk models within such an environment.
-Comprehensive and broad knowledge of consumer lending products and markets, with particular emphasis on the Basel II Accord and its impact on these products and markets.
-Experienced and competent in the use of statistical packages e.g. SAS (including dealing with large datasets) and model development environments.
-Proven ability to work without the need for close supervision, and in a team environment, supporting other team players as well as guiding others where needed while showing empathy.
-Some experience and understanding of managing others.
-Good planning/organising skills.
-A high level of creativity, drive, innovation and initiative, with good time management skills.
